Memorial to the Silent Survivors
When Kennedy, the little boy in the painting, first climbed into the arms of the man portraying the Savior he pointed heavenward and said, "My mom and dad are gone." According to the United Nations Counsel on AIDS (UNAIDS), a child in Africa loses a parent every 14 seconds. We created the Giclee'Canvas Limited Edition with 6,171 canvases, the number of children who lose a parent to AIDS in Africa EACH DAY.

Behind the scenes: The story of the making of "The Worth of a Soul"
From renowned Christian artist, Liz Lemon Swindle, October 2007:
When Mothers Without Borders approached me about going to Africa, I told them I was not interested. For me Africa was a world away, "and besides", I thought, "I am too busy." Imagine my surprise when I found myself on a plane to Zambia in June 2007.
One of the first children I met was Kennedy, the little boy you see in the painting. At three years old he has lost both of his parents to AIDS and was found living alone with his six year old brother and ten year old sister. When I thought of those three children struggling to survive and the millions of others across Africa in similar circumstances, I felt an overwhelming hopelessness and said to myself, "No amount of money can fix this."
Later that day while we were filming, Kennedy jumped into the arms of the man portraying the Savior. As I stood watching them, Kennedy turned towards me and our eyes met. At that moment I knew it wasn't hopeless. I realized that the Savior can fix not only the problems of Africa, but of the whole world... and we can be His hands to do it.
Looking back I realize that my reasons for not wanting to go to Africa are likely the same as yours. We are busy and feel like we cannot make a difference, but I know now that neither is true. We are never too busy to lift another and every good work is known to Him who said, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of... these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
From founder, Kathy Headlee:
We approached Ms. Swindle with the idea of creating a painting portraying Christ with children orphaned as a result of AIDS because she has a great heart that is so beautifully reflected in her work.
Our experience with the children in Zambia showed us they know and love the Savior, they sing of Him, they speak of Him, they praise Him in song, in drama, in the very actions of their daily lives. One day, a friend commented to me, "It's so clear that they know their Lord and Savior, I wonder if they KNOW that HE KNOWS them?" And the idea for this special painting was born.
Two years, and many tears later, "The Worth of a Soul" was created. We present it to you with an invitation to make a difference in the life of child today by purchasing a copy for your home.
Carol Zulu and founder Kathy Headlee Miner
Liz was so moved by her experience, she donated her portion of the profits entirely to Mothers Without Borders, and has made arrangements to return with us again next year.
One of many priceless moments we experienced on the project came when 12 year old Carol, who is herself HIV positive, touched her heart and said, "Thank you for bringing this friend to remind us of our Jesus, to remind us that He loves us."
