Northern Uganda Child Rescue

Continued from page 1

In an effort to rescue children from this terrible plight, Mothers Without Borders will partner with Latin Balle Pee, (which means The Child is Innocent in the Acholi language, the most commonly spoken language in Northern Uganda) a Non-Governmental Organization operating in Northern Uganda to provide children at risk with a safe, supportive learning environment by providing scholarships to attend boarding schools in safe regions of the country.

Latin Balle Pee (LBP) was founded in 2004 by a physician from Northern Uganda, Dr. Fred Oola, in partnership with an American medical student, Kevin Schwartz, and American graduate student, Holly Kirschke.

Dr. Oola was raised in the violent and poverty-stricken region of Northern Uganda, but through the generosity of foreign donors, was able to attend boarding school for his secondary education and from there went on to win a scholarship to attend medical school. Dr. Oola is extremely committed to giving back to the community where he grew up. (for more information on the efforts of LBP please visit www.thechildisinnocent.org)

Students eligible for the scholarships range from 5 to 18 years of age and are selected based on a combination of need and academic achievement/potential as assessed by community leaders and teachers.
