Micro-Credit Loan Program

Micro credit loans provide an opportunity for widows and couples caring for orphans to provide for their family. Loans given in amounts ranging from $60 to $250 enable these hard working individuals to keep orphaned and vulnerable children in a family environment.

Mothers Without Borders has provided loans to more than 200 families. We have identified more than 1700 families who desperately need this program.

This is Skolastika, a widow and mother of 4. She is also raising 4 of her late brother's children. She was 28 years old when this photo was taken, she is HIV positive. She received a $60 loan from MWB. She opened this restaurant, and repaid the loan in the first 6 months of operation. After that, she used her profits to purchase a small piece of land. She received her second loan of $100 one year later, which she used to purchase building materials for a small house. She writes, "I wanted to have a safe and secure place for my children to live, and a business that would support them after I die. I know I won't be here to see them grow up, but I want them to be able to stay together and have a future."

Prior to receiving her first loan, Skolastika was forced to engage in prostitution to support her 8 children. Now she is an advocate for other widows who want to get out of prostitution and start their own small business.

You can help women like Skolastika for as little as $60. Please donate now.
